It is mid summer 2010 and fall is just
around the corner. Zach and I are
really looking forward to our Days Afield. We
still have a few weeks until the opening of dove season here
in the south; For now all we can do is reflect on all of the
memories of our Days Afield we had since last
fall.
Sitting back to reminisce about your
Days Afield, you realize how truly blessed being a part of the
sporting lifestyle you are. The sporting
lifestyle has not really changed much over the
years. Sure we have some warmer clothes and the feel
of the new fly rods are hard to beat. But the
real roots of our passion has not changed much. Whether
you are sitting on a stool dripping with sweat in the
southern heat at a good old fashiong dove shoot; casting
to rising fish as they sip down flies still stuck
in the surface film during the hatch;
smelling the sweet wet aroma of your lab sitting next to you
in the flooded timber; or chasing whatever your upland fantasy
(pheasants, grouse, and /or quail ) across seemingly
endless CRP and crop fields of the Midwest, through thick
coverts of the North Woods or the edges of the south where Mr.
Bobwhite likes to hide, the sporting lifestyle remains
timeless. Good friends, good dogs, and the great
outdoors that about sums it
up.
I
think I am going to have a get a new hard drive to back up my
brain with all of the great memories I have had over the last
year. After the opening of dove season Zach and I making
the pilgrimage to pheasant mecca with the crew from
Wildrose. The images from that trip alone made the
entire fall. Thank you Bill Behnke for the invite
and your hospitality we can not wait until October to
have a repeat performance . Late winter found
Zach and I in Mississippi at BuckLake Outfitters, for the final weekend of duck season.
Frank Whaley and Maggie shared the blind with us for the
coldest days Mississippi had in recent history. Rain,
ice, snow, wind it could not been any more ducky kind of
weather. The cold got me ready for a huge trip to the
Iditarod with GCI, Bill Behnke and Ghillie (everyones
favorite retriever) that was the highlight of the entire year
if not my life. My first trip to the Alaska and for
"The Last Great Race on Earth" that one is going to be
hard to top. Bill had promised that he was going to
bring Days Afield Photography to another
dimension. He lived up to his promise.
Shortly after the Alaska adventure we headed to Wildrose Kennels for their
spring retriever handlers seminar. The largest
group of handlers and dogs I have seen in six years came
to participate. This spring found Days Afield
Photography at the Ledges on the Wautaga and the South
Holston rivers of East Tennessee with the Trout Unlimited Coldwater Conservation
Fund. A week of casting to the
browns and bo's of two world class
fisheries. An excellent trip with a group of
conservation minded throwers of the fly. Thanks to Matt
Braughler and Bruce Elliston for having me come up and
chronicle the trip , always love the week up
there.
We have
added something new to our offerings at Days Afield.
Capturing images of your Days Afield is what we do best
and now we are bumping it up a notch with coffee table
books of your Day or Days Afield. These books
are an unbelievable reminder of time spent living the sporting
life. I have completed about a dozen of them , the
quality of them still blows my mind. These are
full color, large books (@15x11), full color dust jacket, and
extra thick paper stock which make for a coffee table book
that is exactly like one you would find at the book
store.
Days Afield Photography was very thankful to our
editorial clients for the continued support this
year. Retriever Journal, Pointing Dog Journal, Just Labs, Pheasants Forever, Trout
Unlimited and Quail Forever thank you so much
for all of the coverage of my images (photo essays, covers,
photography tip interviews). Ducks
Unlimited for using more of my images
this year. You all really helped make for a great year.
We want to welcome and thank some new editorial clients
as well . The Ruffed Grouse Society
with a new look to their magazine which is awesome.
Quail Unlimited magazine for
calling me to ask if I would like to contribute to their
revamped and equally as awesome new and improved
magazine. Wildlife in North
Carolina an award winning state nature
magazine, which featured our images in a story on the economic
impact of trout fishing in North Carolina.
A
big thanks to some of the more corporate clients for using my
images as well. The
Orvis Company was really
good to us with images in the Spring and Summer Fly
Fishing Catalogues and the Fall Hunting Book. Wildrose Kennel and Wildrose Trading Company for their friendship and continued support. GCI for bringing us to Alaska
for the Iditarod. Sunshine Mills for using
our images in promotional pieces for Sportsmans Pride Dog
food and new website's useage of my
images.
